Pokemon Legends: Arceus is an interesting game to look out for in GameFreak's monster-catching series. It takes place in Sinnoh, but during a time in which the region that Pokemon Diamond and Pearl players know hasn't been fully established. Part of this means that the starters fans usually choose from aren't available. Instead, Pokemon Legends: Arceus lets them pick from Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott. There's just one problem; one of these choices isn't as worthwhile as the others.
Cyndaquil is the fire starter from Pokemon Gold and Silver. It evolves into Quilava and Typhlosion as the player travels with it throughout their playthrough. Like many of the powerful critters in the series, picking Cyndaquil has many positives in the end as it fully evolves, but comes with many negatives.
Pokemon Fan Has Great Idea To Improve Sword And Shield
Sadly, compared to other starters, especially the other fire-type Pokemon, fans have found Typhlosion's moves and stats to be rather lackluster. One fan took to Reddit to voice concerns about the fact that Cyndaquil is a starter choice, hoping that things could very much change in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
Many fans in the comments joined in, mentioning how making competitive team-building choices with Typhlosion leads to very few options. One fan even goes as far as to question if the choices regarding the Pokemon Gold and Silver starters are specifically so the second generation won't overshadow the first. It's simply speculation, but the fact that Typhlosion's stats are very similar to Pokemon Red and Blue's Charizard doesn't help.
Usually, complete re-working of stats and moves tend to wait until a new generation, but the Cyndaquil line has a chance considering that the fire mouse Pokemon and its evolutions have not yet reached Generation 8. With them being absent from Pokemon Sword and Shield, that leaves room for Cyndaquil's inclusion to lead to a possible overhaul.
With what Pokemon tends to do from title to title, though, there isn't much hope for improvement. Most stats for the creatures of the Pokedex have remained the same over the last 25 years, if not all of them. The biggest changes over the years come in the form of how GameFreak adjusts the way the game plays, as well as which moves are available for the sake of balance. While it's hard to hope for Typhlosion's stats to change, there's at least some hope that this Reddit user's request for better moves will be realized.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus comes to the Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2022.
